Policy Statement

Reason for Policy: To provide a process whereby a University-housing resident who has suffered a loss of tangible personal property may be reimbursed.
Policy Summary: 
Definition of Terms in Statement: Tangible personal property: Items belonging to residents that can be photographed and where evidence of damage to the property is visibly apparent.
Policy Statement: 

A University-housing resident who has experienced a monetary loss to tangible personal property as a result of an act or an omission by a University employee performing his/her duties may be reimbursed for such loss.

For those incidents involving damage to or theft of personal property of $500 or less, the resident should contact the Housing Division to start the claim process.

If the Office of Property & Liability Risk Management concurs and approves the claim, the Housing Division will process the claim and issue a check to the resident.

This policy does not apply to bodily injury situations or personal property damage over $500. In these instances, the Housing Division must complete an Incident Report Form and send or fax the form to the Office of Property & Liability Risk Management for further review and processing.
